1. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will be on a three-day visit to India.

  • The visiting dignitary will have meetings with President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • During the visit, both sides will review the progress achieved in bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. Besides his official engagements in Delhi, President Rouhani will also visit Hyderabad.
  • Earlier, Mr. Modi had paid a visit to Iran in May 2016.

2. India and Russia celebrated 70 years of bilateral relations in the field of agriculture at Suratgarh in Rajasthan.

  • Both Indian and Russian delegations will visit the Central State Farm (CSF) to commemorate 70 years of agriculture relationship between the two countries. The CSF was set up in Suratgarh in 1956 with assistance from the erstwhile USSR.
  • Minister of State for Agriculture Gajender Singh Shekhawat and his Russian counterpart Sergey Beletskiy will inaugurate the Russian Machinery Museum and visit a Cattle Breeding Centre. Russian scientists helped in laying the foundation of agriculture in the deserts of Thar, which brought about a change in agriculture farming in nearby areas including the fringe area of Punjab.

3. 12th International Conference on CSR Held in Bengaluru.

  • The Institute Of Directors organized it’s 12th International Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
  • In the conference, the Prestigious Golden Peacock Award 2017 were presented. The leadership award for philanthropy and social change was presented to Mr. Vineet Nayar, Founder Chairman, Sampark Foundation.

  • Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Rashid honors winners of World Government Summit Awards.
  • India’s Umang was named the winner of the Best M-Government Service Award for the Accessible Government category. The application provides users a unified platform that combines government departments and services, facilitating transactions for citizens.
  • India’s Aadhaar also won best-emerging technology award. This project gave 1.2 billion citizens unique identification card with fingerprint, eye-print and other vital data. India now manages about 40 percent of the world’s total electronic identity cards, which are used by 15% of the world’s population. The initiative was achieved through the role played by the government partner, the Indian Identity Authority (UIDAI) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

5. Telangana, Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan and Union Mines and Panchayat Raj Minister Narendra Singh Tomar‎, inaugurate MiningToday2018 in Hyderabad.

  • Mining Today, the international conference on mining is been held at the Hitex Exhibition Centre from February 14 to 17 with the theme TEMPO (technology, equipment, machinery, policy and overseas).
  • The emphasis would be on mining as core sector of the economy that would act as a catalyst for other core industries like power, steel, cement, aerospace, defense and oil and gas that are critical for the development of any economy.

6. Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat concludes his 3-day visit to Nepal, met Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari, PM Sher Bahadur Deuba.

  • The Indian Army Chief is on a three-day visit to the Himalayan Nation on the invitation of his Nepali counterpart Rajendra Chhetri.
  • General Rawat was accompanied by Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri. General Rawat witnessed the Nepal Army Day celebration in Tundhikhel of Kathmandu.
  • Nepal and India have the unique tradition of conferring the Head of the Army Staff of both the nation with the honorary title of the Army after another Chief of Army Staff takes over the office.

7. President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the international conference ‘Agricon 2018’ and ‘Agriexpo 2018’ at Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSAUT) in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

  • Speaking on the occasion, the President said that in a country as vast as India, problems of farmers in different regions are different.
  • “We will have to find solutions according to their needs. Water is a common concern. In this regard, the Government has promoted the concept of ‘per drop, more crop’ and this message should reach every farmer in the country,” he said.
  • Mr. Kovind emphasized the need to see grain production, dairy farming, animal husbandry and fisheries, poultry, horticulture and sericulture as part of a composite approach to modern agriculture. There is also need to encourage the food processing industry to give farmers a better price and a better deal for their produce.

8. French President Emmanuel Macron threatens to strike Syria if proof emerges that its govt is using chemical weapons against civilians.

  • President Emmanuel Macron said last May that the use of chemical weapons would represent a “red line”. In a telephone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed concern over signs that chlorine bombs had been used against civilians in Syria.
  • Syria signed the international treaty banning chemical weapons and allowed monitors to destroy its poison gas arsenal after an agreement reached in 2013 to avert U.S. retaliation for what Washington said was a nerve gas attack near Damascus that killed more than 1000 people. Washington again accused Syria of using nerve gas last year and struck Syrian targets.
