  • The consumer movement marks 15th March with World Consumer Rights Day every year, as a means of raising global awareness about consumer rights and needs.
  • The theme of 2018 World Consumer Rights Day is ‘Making Digital Marketplaces Fairer’.
  • Building on the success of the 2017 BetterDigitalWorld campaign, the 2018 campaign aims to promote digital marketplaces that are more accessible, safer and fairer for consumers across the globe.

2. Actor Jackie Shroff’s “Shunyata” Wins International Award in the US.

  • ‘Shunyata’ has won an award at Best of India Short Film Festival in Los Angeles, US. The 22-minute fiction film directed by Chintan Sarda was selected to be in top six from amongst thousands of entries and was played at a theatre in Los Angeles.
  • An industry based jury then adjudged it the best film. The prize includes a cash prize of $1,000.

3. Actor Narendra Jha passes away at 55.

  • Bollywood actor Narendra Jha, known for his work in films like Raees, Haider, and Kaabil among others, passed away on March 14. He was 55.
  • He also essayed supporting roles in movies like Force 2, Mohenjo Daro and Humari Adhuri Kahaani.

4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered the inaugural address at Indian Science Congress in Imphal, Manipur.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered the inaugural address at the 105th session of the Indian Science Congress, at Manipur University in Imphal.
  • The five-day Science Congress is an annual congregation of science professionals from across the globe. The theme of this year’s edition of the Science Congress is “Reaching the Unreached through Science and Technology.”

5. Larry Kudlow Becomes Trump’s New Economic Adviser.

  • President Donald Trump named Larry Kudlow as the next head of the White House National Economic Council. He has replaced Gary Cohn.
  •  Mr. Kundlow is the conservative media analyst who served as his informal economic adviser during the 2016 campaign.

6. Indian Film ‘Halka’ Bags Award at Montreal Fest.

  • Indian filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda’s “Halka”, which had its world premiere at the 21st Festival International du Film Pour Enfants de Montreal Film (FIFEM), has bagged the Grand Prix de Montreal at the gala.
  • The film is a take on a slum child’s heroism, aspirations, and dreams.

7. Annual Krishi Unnati Mela begins in New Delhi with focus on doubling farmers incomes.

  • The three-day annual Krishi Unnati Mela has started in New Delhi with a focus on doubling farmers income.
  • The objective of the event is to create awareness among farmers about the latest agriculture-related technological developments. The mela will be held at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, on its Pusa campus in the national capital.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address farmers at the event. Mr Modi will also inaugurate the Jaivik Kheti Portal and confer the Krishi Karman Award and also the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Krishi Vigyan protsahan awards.
  • The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of 25 Krishi Vigyan Kendras.

8. Sangeeta Bahadur Appointed Next Ambassador of India to Belarus.

  • Sangeeta Bahadur has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Belarus. She is an IFS officer of 1987 batch.
  • She is currently Additional Secretary in Ministry of External Affairs

9. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico Resigns.

  • Slovak PM Robert Fico and his government resigned as a way out of the political crisis triggered by the slayings of an investigative journalist and his fiancee. Slovak President Andrej Kiska accepted the resignation.
  • The President has asked Peter Pellegrini, Fico’s deputy prime minister, to form a new government.

10.  India ranked 133rd in a global list of the happiest countries, according to a UN-based report.

  • The World Happiness Index 2018, which measures 156 countries in terms of happiness, has placed India in the 133rd position, a drop of 11 places from 2017’s 122nd rank. The country was ranked 118th in 2016.
  • Finland, rose from fifth place last year to oust Norway from the top spot. The 2018 top-10, in the List, are Finland, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Netherlands Canada, New Zealand, Sweden and Australia.
  • The United States came in at 18th, down from 14th place last year. Britain was 19th and the United Arab Emirates 20th.
  • Among the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries, Pakistan was ranked 75th, while Nepal was ranked at 101st. Bhutan has been placed at 97th rank and Sri Lanka at 116th position. Bangladesh is ranked at 115th in the happiness index.
  • China is in 86th position and Myanmar, which is embroiled in the ethnic violence between the majority Buddhists and the minority Rohingya Muslims have been placed at 130th position. Burundi (East Africa) is the world’s unhappiest country.
