1. World Theatre Day: 27 March

  • World Theatre Day was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI).
  • It is celebrated annually on the 27th March by ITI Centres and the international theatre community.
  • The first World Theatre Day International Message was written by Jean Cocteau (France) in 1962.

2. Shooter Anish Bhanwala secured India a third individual gold medal at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney.

  • Having qualified for the final with the highest score, Bhanwala prevailed over two of his India teammates and three Chinese participants in the medal round.
  • India is now placed second in the overall standings with 15 medals, comprising six gold, three silver, and six bronze.

3. SAP to collaborate with NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission.

  • NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission signed a Statement of Intent with SAP, a tech company, to promote innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • As part of the agreement, SAP will adopt 100 Atal Tinkering Laboratories for five years to nurture science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning among secondary school children across the country.
  • The program aims to enable students to learn advanced technology topics relevant to digital transformation.
  • CEO of NITI Aayog, Amitabh Kant said, India’s growth for the next few decades will depend on the innovations coming out of these tinkering labs.
  • The goal is to expand their reach to every district and set up over 30,000 labs across the country over the next three years.

4. Sri Lanka Navy sinks ship used by LTTE.

  • Sri Lankan Navy has sunk a ship used by erstwhile Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and captured by navy from Malaysia.
  • The LTTE vessel, A522 named ‘We Ling” was captured following the conclusion of the conflict and was anchored near the Colombo harbor under the Navy’s custody.
  • As it was in an unusable condition, the government decided to sink it in the sea according to proper procedures.

5. The Gujarati language made compulsory in all the schools affiliated with different boards in the state.

  • State Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama informed the assembly today that teaching of the language will be mandatory in schools affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, and international boards as well as English medium schools from the academic year 2018-19.
  • Mr. Chudasama said that from academic year beginning June 2018-19, Gujarati will be introduced as an introductory language in classes 1 and 2 wherein basics will be taught.

6. Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurated the Saras Aajeevika Mela at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

  • Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tomar said, his Ministry is working for the empowerment of rural women and the Aajeevika Programme and Self Help Groups have given the much-needed employment to rural population especially women.
  • He said the programme has been successful in bringing a socio-economic change. The Minister announced that from now onwards two Saras melas will be organized in each state.

7. Deadline To Link PAN With Aadhaar Extended To June 30 by CBDT.

  • The policy-making body of the tax department issued an order extending the deadline from the current last date of March 31.
  • The order said the deadline for PAN-Aadhaar linking for filing I-T returns is being extended after “consideration of the matter”.

8. 3,21,567 Affordable Houses sanctioned for Urban Poor under PMAY(Urban).

  • Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has approved the construction of 3,21,567 more affordable houses for the benefit of urban poor under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) with an investment of Rs. 18,203 cr with central assistance of Rs. 4,752 cr.
  • The approval was given in the 32nd meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee.
  • The projects were sanctioned across 523 cities in the states of Haryana, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Mizoram, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab & Goa.

9. Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of tribal habitations fully covered by Drinking Water supply.

  • The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has informed that under the Scheme ‘National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP), 10% of the total allocation of funds is earmarked to be used for the supply of drinking water to Scheduled Tribe (ST) dominated habitations.
  • Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of 55770 fully covered tribal habitations with the safe drinking water in the country followed by Odisha and  Jharkhand.

10. Liashkova from Belarus wins Miss Supermodel Worldwide 2018 title.

  • Belarus beauty Aleksandra Liashkova won Miss Supermodel Worldwide 2018 title at a grand finale in Gurugram.
  • Ekaterina Evdokimova of Russia was declared 1st runner-up.
  • India’s Shweta Parmar was awarded Miss Congeniality.
  • First edition of the pageant saw Liashkova beating 42 other hopefuls. It was organized by Ten Square Media and Rubaru Group.

11. Chhattisgarh bags ‘Water Digest Award’ for water conservation.

  • Chhattisgarh bagged the National ‘Water Digest Award’ for Water Conservation-Diversion and for increasing the irrigation capacity in the State.
  • This is the first time that Chhattisgarh Water Resources Department had been given national Award during the past 17 years.
  • The Award is presented every year by the globally renowned magazine ‘Water Digest’-which focuses mainly on water resources.
