1. India, Russia sign seven MoU at Defence Expo at Thiruvidanthai, near Chennai.

  • The MoUs were signed between the Indian Private Defence sector manufacturing companies and Russian Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for manufacture, development of spares, sub-assemblies, and assemblies of identified Russian origin platforms in use by the Indian Armed Forces.
  • The MoUs were signed during third India-Russia Military-Industrial Conference held on the sidelines of DefExpo 2018.
  • The MOUs are related to manufacturing of special operation vessels for underwater platforms, heavyweight torpedo, anti-torpedo defence system combat vehicles, manufacturing spare parts and providing service and maintenance of items and upgrade of optic electric sighting for Sukhoi aircrafts, providing jamming stations for MIG type helicopters and providing technical and logistic support for T90 and T72 tanks.
  • The Indian delegation was led by Secretary (Defence Production) Dr. Ajay Kumar while Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russian Federation Mr. Oleg Ryazantcev led the Russian side.

2. NCERT has published information about Childline helplines and POCSO e-box.

  • National Council Of Educational Research And Training (NCERT) has published the information regarding Childline (1098) – 24×7 Helpline for children and POCSO E-box on the back side of the front cover of all the course books from class 6th to class 12th.
  • Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi said, her ministry intends to bring an amendment to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) to bring the death penalty for rape of minors.

3. Vinod Khanna conferred Dadasaheb Phalke Award posthumously.

  • Veteran Hindi film actor Vinod Khanna was today given Dadasaheb Phalke Award posthumously. Khanna is the 49th recipient of the Award, which is Indian cinema’s highest honor.
  • The National Award for Best Film has gone to Assamese film- Village Rockstars.
  • Late eminent actress Sridevi was awarded Best Actress posthumously for “Mom” whereas Riddhi Sen was chosen as Best Actor for his role in Bengali film ‘Nagarkirtan’.
  • The film Newton was judged as the Best Hindi film. The Award for Best Director has gone to Jayaraj for Malayalam film ‘Bhayanakam’. Fahad Fazil has been chosen as the Best Supporting Actor for the movie Thondimuthalum Drikshakshiyum and Divya Dutta bagged the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in the Hindi feature film, Irada.
  • Meanwhile, Baahubali 2 was chosen for Best Popular Film for Providing Wholesale Entertainment, Best Special Effects, and Best Action Direction Award categories. The film Dhappa has been chosen as Best Feature Film on national integration. ‘Water Baby’ directed by Pia Shah, won the Best Debut Film of a Director in the Non-Feature Film category.

4. CWG 2018: Anish Bhanwala Becomes India’s Youngest CWG Gold Medalist.

  • Fifteen-year-old shooter Anish Bhanwala became India’s youngest gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games, winning the men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Finals with a record score at Gold Coast, Australia.
  • India’s Neeraj Kumar stood fifth at the event. Anish, who is participating in his first Commonwealth Games, won gold at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney 2017.

5.  CWG 2018: Bajrang Punia Wins His First CWG Gold.

  • Wrestler Bajrang Punia won his first Commonwealth Games gold medal, defeating Wales’ Kane Charig by technical superiority in the men’s freestyle 65 kg final in Gold Coast, Australia.
  • This is India’s fifth medal in wrestling in this edition, with Rahul Aware and Sushil Kumar registering gold wins earlier. Bajrang had won a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

6. CWG 2018: Naman Tanwar Wins India’s First Boxing Medal.

  • Nineteen-year-old Naman Tanwar won India its first boxing medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, winning a bronze in the men’s 91 kg category.
  • Naman lost out to Australia’s Jason Whateley in the semifinal of the event to secure the bronze.

7. CWG 2018: Tejaswini Sawant Wins India’s Fifth Shooting Gold.

  • Tejaswini Sawant won India its fifth shooting gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, winning the women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Finals in Gold Coast, Australia.
  • This was 37-year-old Tejaswini’s second medal at the 2018 edition, after winning silver at the women’s 50m Rifle Prone. India’s Anjum Moudgil won silver at the event, after having topped qualification.

8. CWG 2018: Divya Kakran Wins Bronze in the Wrestling women’s Freestyle 68 kg event.

  • India wins their seven medals in wrestling after Divya Kakran clinched the bronze medal in Women’s Freestyle 68kg match of Commonwealth Games 2018.
  • The 19-year-old defeated Sherin Sultana based on victory by fall results to take India’s medal tally to 38.
  • India’s medal count in CWG 2018 included 17 gold, 9 silver, and 12 bronze as they continue to be placed in the third position on the medal table.
  • Australia and England are away ahead of others capturing the top spots of GC 2018 team standings.

9. PM Modi inaugurates Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial at Alipur Road in Delhi.

  • On the Occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Dr. Ambedkar National Memorial at 26, Alipur Road in Delhi.
  • This is the place where Dr. Ambedkar attained Mahaparinirvana on 6th December 1956.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of the memorial on March 21, 2016.

10. Bhanu Pratap Sharma appointed the chairman of Bank Board Bureau.

  • The government has appointed former DoPT Secretary Bhanu Pratap Sharma as Chairman of the Banks Board Bureau (BBB).
  • He replaces Vinod Rai, who was appointed as the first chairman of BBB for a two-year term.
  • Sharma has been appointed for two years.
