1. CWG 2018: Boxing boosts India’s medal tally!!

  • In Boxing events, five-time world champion and Olympic Bronze-medallist MC Mary Kom began the day by winning a gold medal defeating Northern Ireland’s Kristina O’Hara 5-0 in the 48-kg final. Mary Kom also became first Indian woman boxer to win a Commonwealth Gold.
  • Indian Boxer Gaurav Solanki joined the top-finishers’ group in the first set of finals when he picked up the Gold in 52 kg.
  • Boxer Vikas Krishan won gold in 75 kg category.
  • Amit Panghal (49kg) and Manish Kaushik (60kg) settled for Silver medals after losing closely-contested bouts. Manish Kaushik on becoming the 1st Indian boxer to win a silver in the 60kg lightweight.

2. CWG 2018, In shooting: Sanjeev Rajput wins a Gold medal.

  • Sanjeev Rajput won the gold medal in the men’s 50-meter rifle 3 positions event with a games record at the Belmont Shooting Centre.
  • Chain Singh, the other Indian shooter in the fray, finished fifth and got eliminated in the same event.

3. CWG 2018, In Athletics: Neeraj Chopra won gold in Javelin Throw.

  • 20-year old Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian javelin thrower to claim a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, pulling off a season’s best effort of 86.47 meters in the final.
  • Chopra not only joined an elite list of Indian athletes to win a gold medal on their CWG debut but also became the first Indian to triumph in Javelin Throw at CWG.

4. CWG 2018, Wrestling: Sumit Malik, Vinesh Phogat win gold medals; Sakshi Malik, Somveer take home bronze.

  • Vinesh Phogat and Sumit Malik won the gold medals in the women’s 50kg and men’s 125kg. Vinesh outdid Canada’s Jessica Macdonald with a 13-3 scoreline to defend her women’s 50kg freestyle.
  • while Sakshi Malik won the bronze medal in women’s 62kg.
  • The other bronze medallist was Somveer who won the medal in 86kg.

5. CWG 2018: Manika Batra wins historic Table Tennis gold.

  • Top-ranked Indian female paddler Manika Batra went one up on her performance and clinched a gold medal in the women’s singles Table Tennis final.
  • She dished out a clinical performance to win the contest 4-0 against Singapore’s Mengyu Yu and become the first Indian woman to win gold in the women’s singles event at the Commonwealth Games.

6. Nation Celebrates 127th Ambedkar Jayanti.

  • Nation remembers Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar on his 127th birth anniversary. Floral tributes were paid at Babasaheb’s Statue in the Parliament House Complex, New Delhi.
  • Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution of India, was born on 14th April 1891 at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh, which is now known as Dr. Ambedkar Nagar. He was also the first law minister of India.
  • Unified Payment Interface (UPI) based app BHIM that was launched by PM Modi has been named after Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
  • Prof. Bhante Anand Kirti from Colombo, Sri Lanka will get Dr. Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar International Award.

7. PM Modi Launches Largest Health Care Scheme on Ambedkar Jayanti.

  • On the occasion of Birth anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the phase one of the Ayushman Bharat schemes that aim at creating a healthy, prosperous and strong India. The first phase of Ayushman Bharat will see 1.5 Lakh such Centers being set up across the country.
  • The Prime Minister also launched Health and Wellness Centre under Ayushman Bharat scheme in Jangala village of Karnataka. This health and wellness center will have the facility of teleconsultation.

8. Home Minister Rajnath Singh Launches Web-Based App e-FRRO for Foreigners.

  • Rajnath Singh launched the web-based application e-FRRO (e-Foreigners Regional Registration Office) scheme under which foreigners can avail, various visa and immigration-related services online. This will facilitate hassle-free travel to India for foreigners.
  • As per the Home Ministry, the e-FRRO scheme is aimed at building a centralized, transparent online platform for foreigners to avail of visa-related services.

9. World Bank Approves $55mn for Bangladesh Project.

  • The World Bank has approved $55mn to expand the use of clean renewable energy in rural areas of Bangladesh where grid electricity cannot reach easily.
  • The additional financing to the Second Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Development (RERED II) Project will install 1,000 solar irrigation pumps, 30 solar mini-grids and about 4mn improved cooking stoves in rural areas.

10. India Mobile Congress 2018 to be Held in New Delhi from Oct 25- 27th.

  • India Mobile Congress will be held in October 2018 at Aerocity in New Delhi.
  • It is one of the biggest marquee Mobile, Internet and Technology events in Asia, organized by Department of Telecommunications and Cellular Operators Association of India.
  • The theme of the event is  “NEW DIGITAL HORIZONS: Connect. Create. Innovate.”
